Austin Outreach Community Service Center HIV/AIDS Awareness Program
The goal is to provide culturally sensitive HIV education and information to prevent, and reduce exposure to and transmission of infection through the reduction or elimination of high-risk behaviors among African Americans. Funding from the City of Austin Health and Human Services Department, in the amount of 73, 031/per year (for a total six year allotment of $438,186). These funds have been allocated to the ARA on behalf of the Austin Outreach and Community Service Center.
Heritage Council 2017
The Austin Area Heritage Council will celebrate 24 years of recognizing and honoring the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr on Monday, January 16, 2017. ARA supported this event through a $1,000 sponsorship.
Taste of Black Austin is a signature event that explores the narrative of economic development through the historical context of food. It is through cooking that we learned to build community and develop a craft that became an essential ingredient throughout the Southern road map. It is imperative that we work to preserve, celebrate, and furnish opportunities for African American food industry professionals in Austin. ARA was a proud sponsor of this event.
Breaking Barriers: A Celebration of Austin’s Black History
ARA hosted local artist and their artistic works throughout the historic Herman Schieffer/Eastroom building on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 5-7pm.
Black Excellence Gala
The Gold Standard Foundation hosted the 2017 Black Excellence Tribute Awards. The event featured the finest talent in the Black community, showcasing Black excellence through song, spoken word, and dance on Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 7:00 pm. ARA was a proud sponsor of this event.

Enjoy a day singing and performing during spring break at the Women in Jazz “You Can Sing!” Vocal Performance Camp, Saturday, March 13, 2017 at the George Washington Carver Museum, 1165 Angelina Street, Austin, TX.
Girls and Boys from ages 7 to 18 will learn how to their voices and sing in different styles, rhythms and textures. You will also learn how to perform a song and communicate with musicians to sing it your way.

The ARA will be a proud sponsor of the Big Brothers Big Sisters for Austin’s brightest gem, the Ice Ball. This event will take place at the JW Marriott Austin on August 26, 2017, 6pm – Midnight. The community will enjoy cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, seated dinner, auction and live music.
Capital City Black Film Festival 2017
The Festival will showcase nearly 80 narrative and documentary feature films, short films and music videos, as well as panels, interactive workshops, entertainment and red carpet galas. The ARA is a sponsor for this event. This event will take place August 24-27, 2017.

The ARA will be hosting a golf tournament at the Teravista Golf Course on Friday, September 15, 2017. This event will benefit various community outreach programs that the ARA partners with.

NFBPA Leadership Summit
The mission of the NFBPA Central Texas Chapter is embodied in the organization’s commitment to strengthen the position of Blacks within the field of public administration; to increase the number of Blacks appointed to executive positions in public service organizations; and, to groom and prepare younger, aspiring administrators for senior public management posts in the years ahead.
East Austin Studio Tour 2017
